4 common causes of divorce

On Behalf of | Oct 13, 2022 | Divorce |

Some of the most common causes for divorce are arguing, communication difficulties, infidelity and lack of physical intimacy – but, that’s not the entire list, of course.

There are many more reasons couples divorce. Here are just a few:

1. Marriage at a young age

Many religions and cultures believe marriage should happen young, but some people marry young for other reasons. Marriage at a young age can cause problems as people develop more of their identity. Couples may grow to realize marriage wasn’t what they wanted to do but rather feel like it was forced on them.

2. Unemployment and financial struggles

Some couples seek divorce because it’s the best thing financially. One spouse may be building a lot of debt that’s affecting the other. Sometimes, unemployment can cause difficulties in a marriage – especially from spouses who aren’t actively searching for a job.

3. Long-distance marriage

Long-distance relationships happen all the time but often work best when people are just starting to date. Some married couples may have to move for a job or military reasons, which could cause a drift in their intimacy and put stress on their finances.

4. Conflicting parenting methods

Everyone has a specific parenting style. One parent may want to give their child all their attention, while another parent may be more carefree about their responsibilities. Parenting styles can conflict, especially when one spouse acts against the well-being of their child or believes their spouse should follow structured parenting methods.

If there’s conflict in your marriage, you may need to reach out for legal help when learning your options for divorce.
